Mount Hood via VMax

Wednesday, July 4th, 2007

First and foremost, Happy Birthday USA! I hope all you readers are having a fabulous Fourth of July. Here in Portland as I type, it’s 84F and due to reach 90 by 5pm. There is barely a cloud in the sky – and the sun feels great!

A couple of weekends ago, I took a little trip on my motorcycle. Click this link for a map of my journey. My intent was to do “the Mt. Hood loop”, approaching the area from a different direction than last time.

SO glad I did that. And, lucky you! I tucked a little point and shoot camera away in the front pocket of my leather riding jacket.

Mt. Hood

One of the attractions to living in Portland is proximity. To mountains, to the Pacific Ocean, to the music scene, to great restaurants, you get the picture. “If you wanted to”, they said, “you could ski Mt. Hood in the morning and be sunbathing on the coast in the afternoon”. Great in theory – of course, I’m gonna need to find out if it’s real.

Timberline Lodge Pub

There is a relic from the age of beautiful public works called Timberline Lodge near the mid-point of Mt. Hood. I took the above photo while sitting at The Ramshead Bar in said lodge.

Inbound

The title of this post is a bit misleading at this point. When last I posted (”Outbound”), it was from the perspective of someone who lived in MI and took a trip to Oregon. Now, however, I live in Portland…but I’m chronicling a trip I took while I lived in MI. Hmm. So, “Inbound” it is.

On the way back to Michigan from Oregon, we saw a bunch of fabulous sights. On the first day of our drive, we stopped at many of the falls along the Columbia River Gorge. It was a lovely day for it, and many good photos were captured.

Outbound

So, by now you know that I am relocating to Portland, Oregon come early May. In early March, Stacy and I took a road trip to Portland to scout out living arrangements and tap our connections for job possibilities. It was a great trip in many ways…some stories to come…and of course, I took my camera.

First night of the trip, we stopped to see my aunt Ginny and uncle Pete in Peculiar Missouri. We got up early to go for a walk and “help” feed the horses. I use the word “help” in the most loose interpretation possible. But, anyway, the moon was setting.
